Imperfection

We spend so much energy chasing perfection — in our work, our homes, our gardens — that we forget what nature has always known. The imperfect bloom is still beautiful. Maybe more beautiful, because it didn't ask for our approval.

I photographed this magnolia exactly as I found it — not at its peak, not unblemished, not the one anyone would have chosen for a bouquet. And yet. There is something in the curve of those petals, the way the light catches the edges, that stopped me completely. It has stopped a lot of people since.

This is one of my most quietly beloved images. The people who buy it tend to know exactly why.
