I have been chasing magnolias for over fifteen years.
I drive through neighborhoods in early spring with the windows down, watching for the first blush of bloom on bare branches. I stop strangers and ask if I can photograph their trees. I have stood in botanical gardens, private gardens, and ordinary front yards with my Nikon, waiting for the light to do what I know it can do.
Magnolias are ruthlessly brief. The window is maybe two weeks — sometimes less if the weather turns. You have to be ready, and you have to be there.
These images come from Roswell, Georgia; Los Angeles; the Huntington Library and Botanical Garden; and quiet neighborhoods across the American South. Each one was worth the chase.
Every print is a limited edition on Hahnemühle fine art rag paper, printed with professional Epson pigment inks built to last generations. Once an edition sells out it is gone permanently.
These are not just flower photographs. They are what happens when someone pays close attention.
